Have seen some topic where cars are doing only 20 mph in limp home mode.

Mine are doing more than 100 km/h,
when the ASR ligth comes on, but there is an big drop in power

Is this the same problem?

that jsut means your lsoing traction and it automatically cuts some power to keep your car stable.

Yes. My 1989 500SE has the same problem ASR light stays on, gas pedal is hard to depress however I can go 240km per hour with it. However I get lousy gas mileage. Found out that it will cost me 5,000euro to get mine fix. NOT WORTH IT....

Try pumping the accelerator pedal 3 or 4 times before you start the engine. I'm not exactly sure why this works on mine but it does. I also think that the ETA is bad on mine and needs replaced, but I don't have the money. You might want to do a search on this section for a rebuilder. The cost is MUCH lower that going through the dealer!
