Fellas:
my son has the Eclass away in school and said that the car started an odd problem. He said that it has an intermittent ABS light that comes on and when it does the car runs rough but runs still. Has anyone had a similar problem?

FWIW the ABS and SRS lights on my '88 are defacto "low battery" indicators. It seems that whenever an alternator goes (289k, I've had three) the ABS and SRS lights ignite after 5 to 10 minutes of driving. Funny thing is that the battery light never comes on. So I would ask him to have the charging system validated either by purchasing an inexpensive voltmeter and checking for in excess of 13volts across the + and - terminals of the battery when the ABS light is on, or to have it checked by a shop. Other than that, I haven't seen a similar problem crop up on any of my 124s.

OVP should be next to the battery-where that flimsy black, plastic partition is.

Behind the battery, it will have one 10amp fuse on the top if it's the original. Don't try to replace a blown fuse as a long term measure, the entire OVP relay goes bad.

I would also inspect the Voltage Regulator, two screws on the back of the alternator, simple.

Should be a relatively inexpensive fix.

ABS light and OVP are 99% of the time related. The OVP supplies power the the ABS unit. OVP dies, ABS unit dies (although the ABS still functions).

Replace the entire relay. Don't bother attempting to replace it or diagnose it. This is not an item you do this with. Trust me  Replace it and have peace of mind.
