Hey all,

So I'm being trained as a service writer, and we had a car come in today that has everyone stumped at this point, and I figured it might help to get some new minds thinking about it.

Here's the deal. We had a 1989 260E towed in. The customer said he stopped at a red light and the car just died and refused to restart. We found that the car indeed will not start... it cranks over just fine, but it won't fire.

The techs started checking things, and the spark was extremely weak. The cap, rotor, and wires were toast, so they were all replaced along with new plugs.

The fuel pressure tests good, the injectors are working fine, and the compression is 175psi. The crank position sensor (RPM sensor, in other words) was replaced, and the ignition control module was swapped with one that's known good. The computer has no codes in memory.

And it still will not fire. It cranks but doesn't sound like it even wants to start... Anyone have any other ideas as to what to check?

check:
-car's wiring harness
-ignition coil
-Idle Cotrol Valve
-check all vacuum lines
Good Luck..........

p.s. had similar problems with a 1987 260E I used to
own. Ended up being the ICV and the OVP.
