Hi all,

I want to change the serpentine belt on my 88 300TE.
To date, it has about 145,000km on it (90,000 miles)

Without looking at it, the local MB dealer has told me immediately that I should change the belt tensioner as well.

I'm not the original owner so I'll have to assume that the tensioner is still original, but I'm certain that the belt has been changed once before.

Anyway, I would like to hear your experiences when you had your belt changed and whether a new tensioner was necessary.

I don't think you would need to replace the belt tensioner, but I replaced mine because I tightened the belt too much, and it broke.

It's actually more work replacing the belt tensioner than replacing the belt.
