Hi there, I have a 1987 190e 2.3 16v and just last week I was shifting and the gas didn't stop. As I depressed the clutch and took my foot off the gas the engine just revved up crazy like, as if the gas pedal was stuck, but I don't really think it was. This happened again the other day and I could not get it to stop for about a quarter mile. Any ideas? Don't want to burn up my clutch. Thanks!

idle surge

Its a common problem, could be a host of different things. Try using idle surge or high idle in the search field and start from there.

A common problem is a sticky IACV - idle air control valve. Plenty of posts on how to test and clean on the forum.

Hope that helps

Cruise control issue..

My nephew's 16 valve had that symptom, for some reason he bent the rods of his engine when he shut the engine down. It was a 7K engine rebuild. The dealer said it was cruise control that got stuck..

You could sue Mercedes? A recall? Just kidding.
However train yourself to switch off ASAP. Could be a saver. It is not a natural reaction. The diesel folks do not have it that easy.
