Is this a original factory coolant hose from 1986? It’s still pliable and in good condition

Could be. From my experience, I recommend not changing it.

When I bought our SEC 11 years ago the mechanic who had cared for the car advised me not to change that hose so I haven't. Mine has remained soft and pliable and seals just fine.

I do carry a spare upper and lower hose in the trunk, just in case.

Hmmmmm… that’s interesting. I just changed my hoses because… well… I had the opportunity. I still have the old ones. I’ll take a look at them. Maybe put them back in an keep the new ones as spares.

Yeah. You might find that coolant starts leaking out the end of the new hose between the layers of rubber.
