Its a pretty car, I like it overall. See what you mean about the interior though. Red can be nice, but the seats look a bit too bright somehow so yeah maybe they've been dyed. Looks like the centre console might be trimmed in leather though, cool.

Hate the 3rd brake light on the bootlid though its spoiling the lines for me.

I can agree with that as well. I've never liked it on R107s either. It just looks like it doesn't belong.

I've seen this car advertised on Craigslist in Los Angeles for the past several months. I have mixed feelings about it. I think the red interior is a bit too much. Red interior can be cool, but I feel it is best executed on a small, roadster type car. Take the R107, for example. One of those with red interior is appealing to me, but on a bigger car like the W126 the red is a bit of an overdose.

If the car had palomino or cream interior it would be awesome. I'd also return some of the stock details like taillights, turn signal lenses, steering wheel, cluster gauge faces, etc. Then it would be the car for me.

Pretty neat car though, overall. I've come to like midnight blue a lot, same color as my car.

The dark blue SEC convertible I saw in Studio City a few years ago was very clean / in top condition inside & out.
If I remember correctly, the blue that looks almnost black.

This particular interior just... it doesn't look right in certain parts.

The AMG sticker "of authenticity" looks off too.

Don't get me wrong, still a nice car. That's why I shared the find.

I like my bright red interior and black exterior 1973 r107. Maybe loud colors are more acceptable on smaller cars. People tell me it is a desirable color combo. I like to believe them.

The AMG was the one thing that popped out to me as an error. Does the car have AMG mods?

I am glad to see this car because I think the convertible top is nicely done, and I will be replacing the top on my 1978 450slc 5.0 custom convertible. The current top goes under the sheet metal, allowing regular rain water to go into the body with plain old gravity. Some water will always get down there, but perhaps not as deep as what my SLC has experienced. It now has rot in some of the cosmetic custom metal because it looks like water went deeper than anticipated. This design with a top that snaps over the body looks like it will make the water roll over the body, at least when the car is standing still in the rain. I also like the headliner. I will see if I can have these features incorporated into my car's second top.

So thanks for pointing this one out to me!

This car still wouldn't seat five like my SLC though. So I have no interest. :)

VIN is for a 500. The headliner is like that on old VW bugs and I would bet, having never seen one, on older MB convertibles as well.

The red kinda grows on you. my Rose is red on red, no black piping.

I like how the top fits on that particular car. This one looks good., but why would you post umpty 7 pictures of the interior and only one of the engine bay and none of the trunk???

That's the thing I'm wondering, because of the off-looking sticker too.

Looking in Hemmings the other day, I saw an El Camino W116. Looked nice, and even had euro bumpers. I believe it was a 450SEL.

I was looking for a car that would seat five and paid probably more than most folks would pay for a customer convertible. It was less of a commodity than convertible SECs that seem to have enough around to be called a "market". Since there are r107 cars, why in the world would anyone want an SLC convertible? (Because they can seat 5.) So there are not too many SLCs that have been converted to convertibles, let alone a 107026 of which only 2769 were made (and 143 documented in the US so far). Of course I thought mine was in better condition when I was buying it... On the other hand I thought it had the radiator support replaced, which was incorrect, just the VIN thickly painted over. I have a little rust remediation to do in the trunk and custom metal work.

^^ So as you see, it is important to make sure that a custom convertible is done right. If Straman is the best, then it is worth the premium. Condition is everything. Design is even more important. I have a bit of redesign that I think I need to do on my SLC. I am working on it.
