Just purchased an '85 300d for $900.00.....Texas car-zero rust.....runs-drives-lic-inspected.....clear coat is peeling on hood but rest of paint is perfect....interior is imac. except for crack in dash.....everything works except rear pass. window.....can hear motor but window wont go up or down.....havent had time to look at it yet.

Yes......it was a buy of a lifetime.

I prev. owned a '83 300SD and loved it but never got to "mod" or play with it.....wifey didntlike it...too big and too old in her opinion. So...I sold it. Not this time. The 300d is a keeper.

I would also like some advise on what I should look at first for maintenance...oil change & filter, fuel filters, cooling flush, etc is standard....but are there any "tricks of the trade" so to speak?

Also...What are these "spring modifications (lengthen to 27mm) I am reading about? Is this in the injector pump or ? What kind of performance gain do you get? What other performance "tricks" are there that wont effect reliability?

I am looking to upgrade the wheels and tires. Please post any pics of upgraded wheel/ tire combos....and please list the size of the wheel and tires.

Thank you in advance for your time and attention while assisting a "newbie" to this forum.

I see we have yet another Texas W123 owner, welcome to the forum!

This is a website devoted to performance enhancements for diesels: superturbodiesel.com - tuning performance turbo diesel mercedes, W123, W116 and up. OM617, OM60X

Here is a thread where everyone posts their wheel setup: http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w123-e-ce-d-cd-td/1465897-lets-see-those-wheels.html

A nifty feature to use is the "search" function. There are very few topics that haven't been covered and you can easily find the solution to the most common problems or questions.

i think a few people on the board like to run a diesel purge just so you know the pump/injectors are all cleaned out. Tighten up any loose throttle linkages, and i'd do a quick look over at all the little rubber bits connecting the vacuum lines to see if any might cause any issues down the road.

And as far as mods superturbodiesel is the definitely the place to go. I would suggest sticking around here for repairs/maintenance/general questions. A lot of them (at super turbo) assume you already know these cars inside and out, but once you do, it's a very helpful site.

Thank you all for the responses. I pretty mechanically inclined and do all the repairs mods on my other diesel (7.3L Powrerstroke F250), off road trucks, 4 wheelers, etc. I was just wondering if there was that "secret" thing that only owners know of.

Again, thank you all again.

Diesel Performance Enhancements

I have a '78 300D w/81K on the clock. Anyone know of a performance tweak to these natural diesels? in the truck business, we're always playing with the injector pump to squeeze a little more out of them.

thanks
