I have just gotten a 1985 300TD. Siezed engine and a replacement. The replacement is a '84 vintage with the required suspension pump but the injection pump is different. The '85 has a box on the engine side with three wires going to a connector at the top of the firewall, the '84 has the boss but no tapped threads and no box. What is this box, what does it do,and most importantly, can I drive without it? Turbo compressor hsg. is also different but a swap is easy as is changing the thermostat housing and throttle linkage. I'd rather not swap and re-time the pump. all help appreciated,
