hey guys, my little 300d's blower motor stopped working. i can hear what sounds like the blower turning VERY slow. but there is no force at all to it. is it hard to get to? i have no blown fuse yet though. i would think that with it turning slow, bound up, that it would blow a fuse. are they expensive? can be oiled or something?

Now is the time to either....
A). Replace the brushes
or
B). Replace it with a new motor

How did you get at it? Mine has the same problem and hopfully the same fix (new brushes) Mine will not come on until I hit a speed bunp or something then turns very slow. Can you tell me how to get at the motor? Does it involve taking the dash off?

Thanks,
Mike

Hello Mike, welcome back!

Remove the underdash panel on the passenger side and have your 10/8mm sockets ready as well as philips screwdriver. It will have 3-4 bolts holding it from there. If yours has been rebuilt, there will be a Torx screw instead of an additional standard or hex type, just so you know :)

Likewise! It's getting hot here too but I already fixed mine last year using Mercedes Source's repair kit. Didn't have to remove/unbend the tabs though, and didn't cost a lot. Key is to have a steady hand so you could resolder the contacts for the brushes (hopefully it's just that).

I have the same problem. I've got the motor out but can't figure out how to get the brushes out. Do I have to bend the ears of the mounting bracket of the springs to pull them out. I'm afraid if I bend them they will break off.

If I just want to try cleaning the brushes and springs instead of replacing the brushes, what is a good method? Will spraying WD-40 in there damage anything, or should I just be using compressed air?

What is a good source for replacement brushes, if I go that route?

Thanks,
Chris
