Hello all,
My 83 300D has developed a light scraping noise, sounds like it's coming from front driver's side. Sound came on about 2 months ago and but went away quickly so I stopped worrying about it. Now Its back! Sounds like a bearing going bad. It's consistent with engine rpm (at idle and ecceleration). Sounds like "Chuh, Chuh, Chuh, Chuh" (that was a failed attempt at spelling a sound). At first it sounded like it was coming from near power steering pump. I checked the fan blades, they are okay. Now what? Alternator bearing? Water pump bearing? Do I start dropping belts to try and isolate? How should I attack this issue? It's my daily driver! Help!

Many Many thanks in advance!
Sincerely,
MM

Make sure the shield around the rotor isn't bent and rubbing the rotor.
