Where are the light bulbs that light the console lights?<p>I have been going through shift boots on the manual transmission about every year. I use the Mercedes replacement. I have looked in local retail stores and the aftermarket catalogue and can only find one made in Italy for $70. Are there other alternatives? Could I be doing something wrong? I treat the boot with silicone before I install at and follow-up with maintence.

this is for my car(w123 euro 1980 230 sedan), im not 100% sure its for yours...the lights are controlled by a fiber optic unit in the center council, this one bulb lit the power buttons, my temp control has five bulbs in it for the three dials and the one slider, the shift gate has its own bulb...the dash is lit by two bulbs transmitting light over the gauges and down to them from the back...(i replaced most of my lights with green LEDs to match my sony radio and put a green film in the heater to match as well) and i have tore my shift boot too fast as well, mine is the oem rubber style and i put it over a automatic gate so it does not even get that much work! -jake
