Can my '82 300D 4-speed tranny be swapped for a 5-speed? I'm new and all, but I can't be the only one wishing there was another gear @ 70mph and 3500 rpm. Thank you for the help.

Ok,it is possible but is it recommended? Do you know which model will work the best and require the least, if any, modifications? Are there any ramifications to other systems that need modified or other things to consider if it is done?

Ramifications? Oh yes, huge ones. For instance, your shift knob will no longer be accurate. Seriously, though, proceed over to the W123 forum, plenty of people there have done this sort of thing.
