I have 8 hole wheels on my Kramer, the 20mm studs are 275 mm across and the hub is 220 mm. Does anyone know or have the specs on the unimog 8 hole wheels. These axles were used on 80 hp tractors and front end loaders. Its a massively heavy portal assembly, the axle turns a small gear that turns the hub through the bull gear which is supported on either side with multiple bearings. If I could get it on my scales I would but its heavy enough to be dangerous. The crazy part is the amount of disassembly to access the brakes. the PO torched a bracket to change wheel cylinders and the guy from germany scorched me for circumcising the part (his words). The goal is 24" wheels that I will most likely have custom centers made, and some treads like sold by superior traction.

Thanks sdo. I had struck out using the search function. Food for thought maybe I need to find a set of mil bead locks and put new centers in. Please share pics of your endeavor.

Here a two quick pics of the progress. I am doing the work at friends machine shop, Glacial Pace Machine.

First pic is machining the Center out of the MRAP wheels with the CNC mill, second pic is of the new centres, centres still need to be turned down to 15.5" od and have a shoulder cut in them.

Ditto, thanks for sharing. LPG I do look occasionally for stuff being sold up here, I haven't seen any wheels yet. I know we have a few SEE units up here that should be due for sale.

So this unit your working on is basicly a planetary axle hub? But is sound diffrent with only one bull gear. Instresting!

Dose it change the center line of the wheel like a unimog portal axle or dose it stay in line like a planetary axle?

The axle enters the top of case and drives the large gear. Here is a pic of the housing apart (not mine). These units are very heavy duty. Tow rating of 40 tons and a 4 cyl deutz with about 40 hp to drive it.
