79 Tranny Blues.

My 79 300SDTurbo ATF shifts eratic when in Drive 1st is ok 2nd flares long and 3rd is quick. Would amidding pod on the vacuum modulator valve that sets on the IP have anything to do with this. If I back off the gas it shifts better. Would changing the ATF fluid and filter help to corect this as well ?

are you saying the 1-2 shift flares bad or the 2-3 shift. Before you replace the fluid siphon out 1 quart of fluid and replace that with 1 quart of Trans-X , run this for 100-200 miles before replacing the fluid and filter. This may help things if the problem is related to varnish buildup. But let us know about the flaring question I asked.
