Hi All:

I need some help in re-nstalling the original Mexico cassette radio in my 1979 450SL. Currently a newer (2002) Becker CD/radio is
installed and I want to return the car to its original equipment. One attached wiring diagram is for the current radio (A Pin connections (Power) are the ones I need help on; I have figured the B speaker pins). The other attached figure is how the Vintage Becker cassette should be wired between the amp and radio and car.

The wiring connections as they stand are:

Mercedes Wire Yellow connected to (2002) Becker A4
one Red&Blue colored connected to(2002) Becker A5 and A6
second Red&Blue colored connected to(2002) Becker A7
Brown split both ends connected to (2002) Becker A8

Now, the RED&Blue A5 appears to run up to the independent antenna height adjustment switch below the AC vents (is this 12V ignition connection) ?

I believe the other half (?) of the red&blue may go to the power antenna

I believe the yellow wire is from the battery 12v

Brown A8 is ground

In the vintage radio I need to know if I connect the yellow to radio power?

Then do I connect both of the red&blues and the antenna power output wire from the external AMP together for the Vintage radio ?

There is another set of wires from the mexico cassette that plug directly in to the AMP with a multipin plug (no problem)

The speaker wires also plug into the Amp again no problem

Any help in solving this puzzle would be appreciated. I am not real strong in electrical.

Bill

I don't recall any 107 having a separate head unit/amp configuration. Here is a website with a good bit of becker info, but it only covers radios back to 1981... Becker Radio Information maybe others can offer better support.

Good luck sorting it out.

Update on wiring 450SL Mexico Cassette

I have confirmed all the wire identities in the previous post by using a voltmeter. The only thing I still am not sure of is where the antenna power wire from the Mexico AMP behind the glove box connects to?

Right now it is just a cut black wire coming from the AMP since the current radio has an internal AMP.

Thanks,

Bill

I thought the same.
Someone here said that was a bad thought.

I am still not convinced that any 107 came with 2pc units

If you browse this forum, I recently posted pic of colour coding and wiring diagram for original installations.

antenna wire

Hi: I have a 79 450 slc and yes it had the two piece stereo system It had to be OEM as the amp has a special mounting bracket that could have only been installed when the car was made. The antenna power wire plugs in the back of the amp as in your diagram with a female spade connector.
