Took a drive yesterday, about 500 miles, and experienced some higher than normal coolant temps (got to 212F or so) especially at idle after long streches of highway speed.

Last 150 miles were at 180F, as usual. Normal operating temps today at 70mph and at idle.

Do these fan clutches die in an "Italian way", wheedling away at the psyche and causing paranoid glances at the temp gauge, or do they just die?

Either one is possible, but the former is more common, from what I've seen.
