Hey guys! I just picked up a 73 280se as a project car. I have long been intrigued by the styling of these beauties and couldn't be more excited to finally have one in my garage.
I thought I would see if any of you guys can shed some light on this situation for me as I cannot seem anyone local that can.
A couple of days ago I started playing around under the hood and the first thing that I wanted to do was get those deteriorated fuel hoses out of there. I started pulling everything apart and was baffled by what I uncovered.
The tips of the fittings that all of the hoses slide to meet the fuel rail appear to be almost "melted", for a lack of a better word. I asked a number of people and never could get a solid and consistent answer. The damage is only on the injectors that lie on the passenger side of the car.
Does anyone know what could have caused this and why it only happened to one side? I just want to make sure that before I start putting things back together that they will be functioning properly.
Before doing this the car ran good but had a erratic idle when stopped and in gear. Also one of the connections that meets up to the fuel rail from the fuel pump had a pretty nasty leak.
Here are some pictures of the injectors.
The injector's part number ends in 015.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
TIA
-Chase
