WhenI enquired at the dealer about the Long Wheel Base ML, I was told the new G class will be built on the ML and the LWB version will be the NEW G.

Ward's is reporting on the possibility of a 7 seat ML in the future. I hope they are not confusing the G class for a 7 seat ML.

Anyway, here's the link:

Two things were very interesting from the article. Firstly, they state that the 7-seater may be the replacement for the G-class, see below...

There also is the expectation of a 7-seat M-Class down the road (the previous model had 5-seat and 7-seat versions and the new model has launched as a 5-seater only).
...snip...
He stops short of confirming it will be the replacement for the G-Class, a rugged SUV introduced in 1979 and built by Magna Steyr Fahrzeugtechnik AG & Co. KG in Graz, Austria.

And secondly, the statements about quality...

Weingarten came from Germany for the event, in part to present an award acknowledging Vance as the No.1 Mercedes plant for quality in 2004, in front of a crowd of 5,000 at this week's ceremony to officially open the expanded plant.

The award is based on internal scores, as well as the M-Class's ranking as second best in its segment behind the Lexus RX 330 in the 2004 J.D. Power and Associates' Initial Quality Study. The outgoing M-Class scored 96 concerns per 100 vehicles, reflecting a steady improvement since scores of 200 or more in the 1990s, says Taylor.

thanks for the info, that's great if MB decided to produce 7 seat M-class SUV.

The G-Class will be the 7-passsenger M-Class. No way M-B would cannabilize lines by having three 3-row SUV-type vehicles.

The T-models also come with third row seating, not as comfortable maybe, but probably good enough for the school run with the kids.

MBUSA says on their website:

2006 E350 Wagon
Exceeding. Accommodating third-row seating, powerful 268-horsepower V-6, dual-zone climate control, leather seating inserts, leather-trimmed steering wheel, Burl Walnut wood interior trim and protective-coated aluminum roof rails.

2005 E500 4MATIC Wagon
Unmatched. Standard third-row seating, responsive V-8, 4MATICâ„¢ all-wheel drive, premium leather upholstery, Burl Walnut wood interior trim and protective-coated aluminum roof rails.
