what exactly did they do if you know? did you send them both throttle bodies? Did they replace the wire harness from the body to the connector?

What comes to mind is the throttle position sensor, but I don't think your car has one external to the ETA's. I think your car has a throttle cable all the way to the ETA. Is that correct? My 97 model does not. (I think the change was with the introduction of OBDII on the 96 US models). My throttle cable terminates at a potentiometer (the throttle position sensor) located rearward of the firewall by the brake booster. If the throttle body rebuild is good, then I think your throttle position sensor inside the ETA should be good. I understand BBA-remanufacturing to be good at what they do from Mercedes Mechanix' experience reported in a PM to me. Another possibility then is the throttle cable adjustment. I have heard talk of the cable/linkage adjustment being critical, but I really don't know anything about it. I would recommend emailing Pete Maher of v12uberalles.com and asking his experience with rewiring and reinstalling his throttle bodies (95 model S600). He may have insight into getting the throttle cables put back together good.

I also read once about the throttle linkage cable and its influence on ASR light. As I recall, you should loosen slightly a connection between the cable and mechanical connector on ETA. But it does not sound optimistical to me ... hard to believe that this is the reason.

At BBA-reman they did a good job on my ETA.

You must know that there is several sensors which can cause the ASR light. I am not an expert so I do not know details but I can imagine if some sensor which is involved into ASR system is damaged, then ASR light will come on. So, the logic says that it must be a sensor which is not common to ASR and ABS, otherwise the ABS light will be on also. So this reduces the culprits, I would say.

So you have two ideas: loosen (slightly) throttle cable (metal rods from firewall to ETA's mechanical connector) and study ASR system and find out which sensor is only for ASR. that's the most probable reason for your ASR light.

Do you have the STAR system error code? According to StarBrowser, (a module of DAS STAR), there are just 2 N2 component which are N2/2 and N2/4, the SRS and seat belt control module, (I think these are not the source of your problem). On the other hand it might be the STAR can not communicate with base CAN module, (this is another error code), hence it can not diagnose the ASR or other components errors, check the fuses on the top back side of the computer components box, some times one or more blown fuses can cause a communication error with STAR. If you can get a print out of the complete diagnostic session it would be useful to trace the error. Once the STAR communication is established it will be ready to check all components. Inappropriate voltage readings due to bad wires or connectors can cause errors in the STAR diag process. Check the big fat wire harness below and around the computer modules box for open circuits or shorts. The access to a STAR computer is a plus to diagnose this problem. The WIS, has plenty of leads once the codes are found.
Good luck.

1993 600sel Throttle Actuator

I recently inherited a 1993 600sel- I'm new to the site but not new to Mercedes ownership.

The car was in "limp mode" and had been diagnosed by the local dealer as needing a new throttle actuator. I had my mechanic take both throttle bodies off and ship to BBA Remanufacturing. BBA was able to rebuild one but not the other. They had a rebuilt model for $2000 and of course dealer price is $4300. Anybody know where I can pick up a rebuilt or overstock throttle body, part number 0001413925 at a reasonable price?

Thanks-
Todd
