Hello,
recently I rewired MAF connectors and want to know if it is necessery to rewire them all the way dow to the computer box because I really dont wanna do it if it is not the only way to make it work. I've seen some people just cut it where there was not major cracks on insulation anymore and just soldered the wires right there, so I want to ask what way did you guys do the maf wiring job? If there are any photos to be provided I will be very happy to see details.

thanks

I did the job a year ago, but did not take any step by step pictures.

What I did first. I went to wrecking yards got new updated MAF connectors from M119 engines harnesses as I did not want to open up connectors.

M103/M104 use only four electrical connections, but the M119 and M120 use all five electrical connections at the connector head. The M103/m104 is missing one pin.

I had to separate the computer coffin from the bottom, so I could lift out the connectors as they are held down. I melted a hole on the corner of the computer box to feed the wires in, and I cut the old wire from the connector a few cm, so I could solder to it. It is on four wires to computers 1 and 3(counting from the front of the car). Remember one wire of each MAF will meet at ground union right by the big electrical disconnect connector for the Injector harness

This helped:

Hope it helps,

Martin

I used engine wire from harness wire from +96 W140. I used two layers of heat shrink tubing.

Thanks MAVA, my major concer is if its necessery to go down under the computer box. Were the wires there cracked? Because I see no major cracks like 30 cm before it goes somewhere under the area where the computer boxes are and I really cant look no further without taking it apart. Its basiclly over the wheel well where the wires are pretty much not really cracked so I thought its enough to solder it there. What do you think is it a really bad idea?

At first, I was not going to do that, but upon investigating. I found two wires in poor shape at the computer box connections, so I just elected to replace them all as this was a customers car, and it is just best to be safe than to be sorry..

Hi anticore. I rewired my maf connectors to only about 30-40cm from connectors. I didnt see more crack towards the computer box. Digging into computer box you risk damaging more wires than you need.

kubasz thanks for your input, its worth considering that it may do more wrong than good by now. What is you mileage and when did the problems start with your wiring or did you do it for prevention? Did you rewire other stuff already?

Everyone will have a different outcome.

The weather is hotter here, and so I found more damage, and two wires had the insulation cracked at the computer...

I spent all my effort with the computer area.

My 93 600SEL is now at 286000km and i was not aware of this problem. 2 years ago i gave my car to a local shop to fix oil leaks from front timing cover but they failed and only found that my wiring harness was bad and maf wiring was bad. I rewired upper wiring harness and maf wiring myself.

Here are pictures of my friends V12 UWH i was repairing
