I don' think a Ford(BMW?) tool (10 lb sledge hammer) will work for this. :D

Hook 1 side in, then use a long screwdriver or pry bar to pry the other side in. As much leverage as you can get is better than too little.

Yes "leverage" is the key.
If you think that is hard, try installing one of those Trunk Torsion Rods.
Be careful, you don't want it to spring back out at you.
