Didn't even know it existed until I cleaned out my glove box. Might be useful with small hands. Rectangular cover similar to the fuse panel one. Cover is made out of the same material as the liner so it blends in really well.
I can't speak with authority on the subject, but I surmise you will find this trap door on the 1982 and up cars equipped with ACCII and ACCIII systems. Right behind it in close proximity, you will find the diagnostic connector for the climate control system.

Just a guess, mind you...

Ears I would buy your guess. While I could see and touch the relays in the back I would hate to try changing them without removing the glove box first.

I've always figured it's to give (hopefully only) the owner a quicker way to yank the cable plug out of the alarm system black box in the event of a false or inadvertent tripping of the alarm system (if the key's not handy).

Some day I'm sure I'll bench test my hypothesis.
