I've browsed this forum for quite some time now, learning how to
fix my 191k mile 1987 Mercedes 560sel...It was running rough, then run
fine then bog down with a maximum speed of 20mph for the past two months.

In this time, I've replaced the plugs, wires, cap, fuel pump/filter, relay, catalytic converter,
and such. Having spent so much money and not getting the car fixed,
I finally broke down and had it towed to the "stealership."

Diagnosis? "Fuel Distributor. Hand over $2200.00 and we'll fix it." I said,
"screw that, I'm gonna tow it home and put in a rebuilt one and install
it myself. Well, the new one is in and the car will not start unless I gently
press down on the air "thingy," then it will start.

Anyone know how to adjust it? Anyone have a PDF or other file to
post so that I can have the correct installation? I have a Mercedes
cd here but the computer isn't allowing me to download it at this time.
So any help is appreciated.

Thanks...

It's pretty simple. If you put your air cleaner housing on there is a hole behind the wingnut with a little rubber grummet around it. Stick a 3mm allen wrench in that hole. Turn clockwise to richen counterclockwise to lean.

Welcome to the forum.

I guess you have already discovered the search function.

If you update your profile, it is easier for others to see your model and location.

When you say you are having problems with downloading the MBUSA CD's, have you downloaded the Steve Nervig index and then copied the contents of the CD's into the folders?

The index vastly improves the CD functionality.

Good luck.

Turning the 3mm will only effect your mixture up to 2500RPM. If you FD is shot, we can get you a proper reman for about 550. However, your EHA may also be suspect. Lastly, it would be helpful if you filled out your entire profile..location etc, etc.. Jonathan

Hmm...I thought he hadn't gotten the reman yet... Either way, he may have to delve into the EHA as well as the CO to get where he needs to be.

I'm also curious if they replaced the O2.

Lastly, I wonder who replaced All that w/o first figuring the FD was hosed....

See, he's got it in already.

And the answer to your last question would appear to be himself.

Why not check it with an exhaust analyzer (smog machine) and adjust the CO% to start with. It does seem like it is probably lean but without being able to read the #s it's pretty hard to adjust it properly since barely turning the 3mm screw makes a big difference.
