Good morning comrades.
Someone offer me his '96 7.50i V12 for my 560 swb.By the way l am selling it :(
I am tempted by the idea having another V12 beside my 600SEL
..
So 560 will go anyways, just don't know if l am going to be in deep sh.t with the beemer...
Any real time experience with that particular model...
Thank you

The e38 v12 requires as much work as the w140 m120. Maybe slightly less. I think they're easy to work on though and the 96-99 ate the more reliable. But, v12's tend to scare people away.

If I had a shorty 560, there would be no way in hell I'd ever let it go. Without knowing the exact numbers, I'd say V12 E28s are more like dime in a dozen compared to a 560SE.

If you must have another V12, buy it outright, do not trade. But... Your car, your money, so what ever floats your boat.

Run a mile in the opposite direction like your hair is on fire from any 90's vintage Beemer, especially a V12! Electronics are a known weak spot, murder to diagnose and hell on the pocket to fix. A nicely sorted 560 will run for much longer and harder than any Beemer of that same era. Why do you think he wants to trade you, he-he-he...

Neither, I don't think. OP wants a more modern experience and is wondering how risky that Beemer is in terms of maintenance etc.

Easy I work on both and I would not own the bmw. From the stand point of the repair shop we would like to see you in the bmw.(we like vacation) The bmw will cost lots more than the benz to keep up. I tell people that if I was to start over with my shop I would only need to work on bmw.
MERCEDES is by far the better car:smile

You really scared me...I heard also same things before I bought my own V12 but not as this much...l even thought e38 uses a more modern motronic system than my 92 600 which l had to change both air mass sensors and throttle bodies.ok than.will talk to the bmw owner today and exchange thoughts on the swap...thank all of you for the precious comments.

I told a client to lease the bmw they "had" to have. They bought and now the mx cost is killing them per requirements after 36k. They are trading it in for a similar CPO mb

There's so many dilapidated/abandoned e38's that roam the streets, driven by low-income bracket drivers that just drive them into the ground.

Nice ones are far and in between, and even so, there's so many of them around and admittedly, the styling has NOT withstood the test of time as well as the w126.

Your 560SE should be making a consistent 235-240hp at the dyno, have it tested to make sure you're making full power before you throw in the towel
