My wife suggested I should sell my SEL no garage room left, she drives a 1998 Volvo C70. I have an opportunity to replace it with a 1976 450 SL.

Nice clean car.. post the asking price, you're bound to have people ask for it.

Also, what are those "things" to the left of the steering column and to the left of the key ignition. I've never seen those before. Also, what problems would arrise if a person wants to register the car in the US? It seems that nothing has been touched visually on the car.. as even the tail lights are Euro.

Hi Snible
To the left is the german cruse control
I'm still waiting for imput as to $ value? see my page 2 posting give me your imput.
As to US delivery would have to go through a US broker to satisfy your US epa requirements may be a small problem due to being a grey market import, the unit does have a new cat but no emo sensor she past with flying colors under our Ontario emmissions system. e-mail me [email protected]
Under the cruse control on the dash is a disconnected satalite phone link-up that was removed prior to being shipped from Japan the wiring is still in the boot. The former owner reported that she paid $125,000.00 US for the unit June 1988 shipped through the Canary Islands. I believe she use to be a Diplomat.

drive up in a beater 560 and swap everything out.

That would be the least annoying method of getting her into the states.

I'm not sure, but you might be able to fly up w/ VIN and tags in hand..I really don't know what sort of records the borders keep.

The SL 450 is a collectors car average selling price with over 100K $12,000 US, there is a 77 450 SL listed in hemmings for $20,995.00 US with 37K The one I'm considering has 74,000 klms the cloth top was never used the hard top always remained on. I expect to reach a deal in the area of $15,000.00 CDN. Should this deal not go I also like the 2004 E55 AMG with the 460 HP engine currently out of my $ range.

1988 SEC 560 Euro 64,000 klms
1988 SEL 560 Euro 76,000 klms
1998 Volvo C70 Turbo 52,000 klms
2004 Pacifica 14,200 klms

All you need is a letter from MB of CANADA that certifies that your car comforms with US EPA standards. The US buyer will pay US customs around $40.00 or so.
Are your EURO 560 SEL and SEC original exported to Canada ?

No. Both units were privately imported from Japan as used. In Canada there is no hassal if the import is 16 years or older although they still have to pass the Ontario emmissions to be registered.
I have a friend that teaches english in Japan I got my SEC through him. He also now has an import business his company's address...As to the SEL it was a private import through a lawyer studing international law in Japan his new wife is Japanese and the unit was her neighbours car.

Hi Gary..

there's a car on ebay thats very similar to yours. Can't tell the condition of it by the crappy picture, but the milage and euro model should be about the same. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6332&item=4529159737&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

You can use it to see what they go for. Granted, your car has desirable rims and is probably not as clean as yours... but I didn't see detailed pics to be sure.
