I saw a few back in the 80s, and I've seen a few for sale on ebay in the past few years. Neato, but I'm always very leary of the aftermarket convertible - that top doesn't look like it sits very well.

Hey, there is one about 5 miles from my house. An older gentleman owns it and it doesn't look half bad. I wonder how difficult it is for new tops and mechanically?

Regards,

ya know. I would have thought I would like it, being a convertable, but to tell ya the truth, It ruins the sleek lines of the SEC. Kinda took away what was sexy about the car to begin with. But that's just my opinion.

should have done it the right way and just left it a prmanent one---Like Me!!

then @ 100 you dont need to worry about the top coming off!! but as jono put it fr those of you out there that have driven an old Oldsmobile or sebring convertible--A flexible Flyer for sure!

I'd be wary about any of these Convertibles that cannot provide records for who did the conversion. I believe SGS in Bremen was about the biggest and most trusted name back in the day.

I agree also that the best converter of these was Styling Garage (SGS) in Bremen, if you really wanted one. With US-spec lights and bumpers, chances are pretty high that it was done here, which makes it even worse.

DarkOne nailed it, the C pillar is on these gives it the timeless "sex appeal", and the conversion simply cuts it right off. Windows all down and sunroof gives you plenty of sunshine and air in the summer....

"Flexible Flyer"....that says it all.....in a word....good one Jonathan, LOL
That one will get used next time one of these comes up.

For those who "must" have a convertible, a W124 cabrio is the way to go.
Those look fine, especially in the dark metallic colors.

cascade,

Agreed! I'd much rather an W124 E36 AMG Cabrio than a drop top conversion, SGS or not.
