Hello everybody.

It just came in the market here in Portugal an ’81 500 SLC.
It has 52000 km, full MB service history, very high spec (I think full extras) and it’s champagne green with green velours interior. 1 owner car. The only down side is that the paint is looking old and the wheels are the ‘80s MB alloys with 16 (I think) holes.
How much do you think it’s worth a car like this?

Hi,

My apologies, I thought you meant in Portugal. A 500SLC with those miles in excellent condition can bring upwards of $20K here if it's a real 500. Pics would be nice.

500's are highly valued in the US - they were not sold here by Mercedes dealers, and good ones are hard to find.

Thanks!!!

The guy is asking 19500 EURO (around USD 25000).

It seems to be too much, even for US market. Don't you think?

Let's see some pics and let's make sure it's a real 500SLC and not a rebadged 380 or something.

I've noticed, that prices of 5,0l SLC are approximately 10000 EUR average in Germany, there are cheaper and more expensive. I know the owner of such one in Lithuania, the price last summer was 10000 EUR, it seemed to be in very good condition, here are one pict:

Forgot to say: it was restaured in Switzerland 1994 (???), but spoiler on trunk is missing, the fog lamps also. (???) But no visible signs of rust.

$25,000 grand US would be too much over here. You could buy a pristine 500SL less than that.

500 SLC are expensive, because only 2.769 are ever built (and there are 2 versions of them -- first there was 450 SLC 5.0 (little above 5.0 l engine) and then 500 SLC (engine less than 5000 cm^3)). When comparing 500 SLC to mass production 500 SL (11.812 units), the picture about price is clear... 500 SLC are the sport-coupe, that are a dream of every SLC lover, SLCs are the ones, that were competition cars (and 450 SLC 5.0/500 SLC are that version), not the 500 SLs, that was cars for pleasure.

I have a European 1981 500 SLC with around 87,000 miles which is in great shape and am thinking about selling it. Any ideas about how to best go about this?

I would recommend ebay. Be sure to list it in both SL category as well as "Other Models" category since it's such an uncommon model.
