Preparing to remove the shifter tomorrow on the manual 5 speed. Bushings came in today.

Anyone done this and have special instructions?

Anyone know of other models that had this shifter? I checked the EPC and did not come up with one. Found some other models with a 5 speed but the shifter is different.

I haven't. But I wouldn't hesitate.

Did you get the the EPC parts picture?

As I've said before, the Haynes /Chilton manual I have has an exploded view of it.

No hurry. Might be a good one to have for the future.

Where did you get your bushing kit from? I struggled to find the correct bushings for my Getrag - had to research with the Bimmer forum.

This is the 280SL shifter. I bought the bushing from the Classic Center.

Cool thing about the EPC if you click on search and put in the part # it will (usually) tell you what other models apply. Got a side view mirror from a 116
however that was identical to the 107's but didn't show up on the EPC. One thing a did learn on another site, that proved to be true, is that the shifting rod bushings are the same as a 4spd 220. Talking about a Getrag 76/27-5.

Finished today. It is really simple to replace the bushings on the shifter. Linkage bushings are not bad but are best done by supporting the trans. and removing the support plate. This also allows inspection of the trans. mount and front flex disc. Both looked really great. There was barely room for me under there so no pictures. It is about a 3 out of 10 if you have any mechanical skills.

One caution. Unless there is something that you feel in the tower there is no reason to release the spring clip holding it in. I Circled the area in red. Took me a couple of hours to get it back together.
