i didnt search, so forgive me if this has already been covered, but i went on a u-pull-it tour today. there was a couple of 450se- and it seems like i remember hearing at some point that you can swap the bigger vented brake rotors and calipers into a w123. they look very similar, (see pics), but idk- does anybody know about this?

also, one was a euro and the tach itself (obviously not the cluster) looks very similar to w123s. does anyone know if the tach itself, just the face and mechanism, can be swapped into a w123 cluster? i'm thinking since its a v8 its calibrated differently, but wondering just in case.

gen 2 W126 brakes will work. I dunno about W116 brakes. You'll need the calipers, and rotors.

Gen 2 W126 rotors on the fronts won't work unless you upgrade your rims to 15s.

so, looking into it further, gen 1 w126 is pre '85, gen 2 is post '85. apparently you could still get the m110 in the gen 1 w126, but not gen 2.

so i find it odd that (out of 3 models-w116, g1 w126, g2 w126) you can swap brake parts into a w123 with the model that seems most removed from the w123, the gen 2 w126. not doubting anything said thus far, just trying to figure it out before i spend hours kneeing gravel at a u-pull-it.

minas de cobre, did you grab that 6.9 instrument cluster? I'd be interested in purchasing it from you.

just to bring this threads original question to a close: see pics.
w123 front spindle w/ w116 rotor and caliper installed. the diameter is the same, so the only upgrade in this case is that the rotor is ventilated. i actually drug the spindle out to the yard with me and also tried a w126 brake set on it and that also fit.
i was told that the w126 coupe has a larger diameter rotor, bigger calipers, as well as being vented, so that would be the hot set-up. until i find that one though, i think i will throw the w116 pieces on my car for now.

Vented brakes won't increase stopping power, but it will help prevent fade and warping from overheating.

Good job. I have never come across brakes in the junkyards that weren't covered in thick rust, it looks like that car was driven in the last few weeks. Personally though, since the spindle has to be removed I'd rather wait to find bigger genII W126 brakes.
