I am looking for a unrusted 416 doka cab, in museum quality of course and it would be great if it were located in so cal.

I am sure a few of you have 1, maybe 2 in the barn just collecting dust....right? right?

Ok, so maybe a little rust is permissible but less than the one I have....k?:crybaby2:

I am prepared for a flood of reply's......

Yawn....

Just thought I would throw it out there.....:D

There is that guy with the 35+mpg doka, perhaps if you bought that truck you could commission a new cab made by hand by elves with the money you could make licensing the 35+mpg technology he used.

Seriously though, I know Von was contemplating making doka cabs from 'glass, perhaps give him a poke and see where that project is at.

you are asking for somthing that is very hard to find. why would anyone part out a unimog with a good cab? mogs get parted out if they are rotted or have been crashed. in either case the cab is no good.

you may look into finding a 406 doka and part it yourself and recover the cost. or just buy a nice doka 416.

Docfranco,
The problem with the center pillers is there is way more than just the outside skin. Each one will be rusted out differently. So you pretty much have to make up the parts as you go, and you have to start from the inside and work your way out. I have attached some photos of some of the repair I did on my cab.

And lets not forget all the inside rust that needs to be taken care of before the new skins go on!

It takes a lot of hours of hard work to go from rust bucket to solid metal again!

Then you got the roof to deal with! They all seem to rust out from the top down! These photos don't show all the steps to get it like the last photo. This cab took months to repair to get it in primer!

Looks like quite a project and quite a good job in the end. Spot welder?

Do you know where this truck had lived it's previous life? The reason I ask is from experience with old Dodge Town Wagons that come from the west coast. The ones that come from other parts of the country have rust in all the usual places, fenders, doors, cowl etc but good roofs, but some of the trucks from the west coast don't have rust in any of those places but have rusted out roofs or more exactly around the sides just like on that 416. Maybe damp salt air floating up to the top inside the cab and condensing and running down the sides over the years? Any thoughts?

I don't know when it came over from Europe, but when it came to me from Tenn. it had green growth all over it like it was in some very most environment. And the title is out of SC. so this could be the salt air problem causing all of this rust. It seems that most of the 406-416 mogs have some rust issues with the roof. I don't think the factory ever got a good seal where the roof skin is welded onto the rain gutter.

And I use Mig, Tig, and a spot welder to do all of this work.

Hey Von,
How difficult would it be to bolt a cab like yours on a 404? I know anything can be done with fabricating, I'm just curious how much different the 404 and 406/416 really are.

If you were thinking of fitting a DoKa 406/416 cab to your truck, I wouldn't bother. A mint, rust free cab is $15k+ by itself. You can find nice 404's with decent rust free 406/416 DoKa cabs on them in Europe however, although they usually sell for ~$10k Euros for the complete rig.

The 404.?? was a fire service mog that came factory with the gas engine and 406-16 doka body. I think Bigmellon here has one. It has an odd brake configuration, and probably uses some specific parts to bridge the 404-06/16 gap. Just a question, I've always assumed that the 406 and 416 Doka cabs were the same. Any reason that they wouldn't be?

The 404.0 had the larger, more powerful gas engine too.

I think most (if not all?) of the 406 DoKa cabs were originally put on tugs which had the window in the lower rear center of the cab, whereas most of the firetruck (416) DoKas had sheetmetal where that glass would be.

I'm not actively seeking to upgrade my 404 to a doka cab. If I run across one in a barn somewhere (the proverbial scenario) then I would, but until then, I'd just be happy to have a top that doesn't leak. There was a gentleman on the forum selling a 404 doka cab, but that was before I was on the list or I would have looked into it.
