Okay so I get it. Some models 404 came with 406/416 cabs ? How many of those was produced ? In what years ? And for who (Military etc.) ?

If Ive understood it right this:

...is a standard 404. And this:

...is a 404 with 406/416 cab ?

Hi. I am the proud owner of a 1974 404.011. The 404 with the 406 cab where made from April 1971.

Of a total production number of app 60,000 404s only about 2,000 of them where 404.011. A lot of those went to the Danish Army. [^]

Electric windows, leather seats and the built-in microwave oven.. [:D]

But Seriously. My handbrake is at the front of the cabin. The brakes are power-assisted and the cabin seems a bit higher than the 404s cab. The wheel arches are a bit larger and wind shield is one piece.

Apart from that, I can't think of all that many differences.

are there more room for the passenger?

the 406/416 cab looks a little bit more "modern" ..
i like the round wheel arches ...

what are the biggest differences between the 404 and 406/416 chassies?
(i know that they are "diesel power" [:p] but what else? axels, gearbox and so on?)

[:)] Thanks. So the numbers behind 404 (011) means its a 404 with 406 cab ? Ive always wondered what they told. (I was thinking wheelbase [)]) So they are pretty rare then. Are all of them military versions ? Why did MB bother to fit a 406 cab anyway ? Any particular reason ?

And BTW, what size are those XLs ?

The axles. Thats why I hesitate buying a 404. The 406/416 axles supposed to be majorly improved. Some of the later ones even has discbrakes. Any thoughts on that ? Is it really any advantages with the 404 axles at all ? Maybe the one-piece axlehousing ? Id like yours oppinion on that, please [:)]

hehe .. känns lite konstigt att skriva på engelska till sådana man vet förstår svenska ... [:D]

(ie. feels a bit funny to write in english to people i know understand swedish)

all for the other users though, i guess there are more
people here who understand english than swedish .. [;)]

lol i did reply some days back but it seems to be lost...

404.0 cab was also available as doka. used for military, dutch army had single cabs and doka's, and for firetrucks. i know a dutch scrapheap with i think has 5-10 404.0 firedoka's with powder/foam exthinguisers [?]build on the back. also they have some single cabs wich cost ten years back 5-6 thousand €, firedoka's about 15000€

I believe the firedoka's ive seen had een M130 engine and the single cabs sofar ive seen a M180. ( i test drove 2 404.0 for purchase and both had an M180) im not sure if the unimogtype M130 was only to order on the 404.0 or also on the 404.1

an other thing i wanted to know was the brake assist. it looks like a vacuum powerbrake system on the 404.0 pic. i had a 421 diesel wich had compressed air brake assist. THAT STOPS! also the (belgian/swiss)404.1 where fitted with vacuum brake assist.

The THING is the light switch. Nato type, like you find in the tanks. Very hard to figure out but you can even turn the brake lights on and off. [;)]

My car has air pressure assisted servo brakes. A new combination to me - but it works very well ! [:D]

I also have air pressure for a trailer or for pumping up tires/tyres. Was thinking of using this when I repaint the car. Wouldn't it be great to do a complete respray in some public parking garage? [:D]

And yes THE SCANDINAVIAN MOG-TEAM RULES !

Yep youre right, i looked over the gauges picture in the dash.... on the right big gauge with oilpressure etc. you have in the center the brake presure gauge.

i made a air socket in the cab to dust it out :) and for inflating tyres.... to spray the compressor delivers to less air i believe.

Do you have manual engaged diff locks or are they also on air? think manual, the 421 type of me had air lockers.
