guude,

the trans (UG1) of the 411 and the 404 are the same and there was no change in any parts over the production time.
only the 2010 and the early 401 had an unsynchronisied trans..

gut mog! justus. .

Yes there are different gearboxes. The internals may well be the same but the casings are different. Specifically the castings at the rear. The earlier box had a threaded casting to bolt the gearbox to the cross member. The later ones used a nut and bolt arrangement which is stronger.

guude,

dxmedia is right, the very early gearboxes had a different fixing point at the rear, but there was an adapter that is easy to build.

the engines got more and more modern.
the early ones (M 180.927) had a compression of 1:6.8 and an other cylinder head with an other camshaft, it needed sparkplugs with long thread.
then the M 180.928 and a few more with little evolutions, of those the parts are convertible,
the early ones had a different cooler, the engine is, exept of the head with its parts, convertible too.

very few 404.1 had the M 130 engine, a few less had an diesel engine with 60!!! Hp

gut mog! justus..

The factory diesels were built for Angola and were OM614/615 family engines fitted to 404.1 open cab trucks. It was a limited run for military purchase. With 60hp they were a wee bit slow, one of the SA chaps here mentioned they were referred to as mobile dunes.

most of the 404.0 had the M 180 too, there where 113 pcs open, 1151 closed, with the M 130 only 7 open, 520 closed.

the 81 with the OM 615, 60 HP, had the 406/416 open cab.
the bridge between engine and trans was a special one. none of them was seen in the last 20 years, they all seem lost in angola ore mosambique.
