Hello, I have just bought a '63 404 with a stock M180 engine. My question is what kind of fuel do I need? Is 92 octane ok?

92 is great

I have a '68 404 that uses 87 Octane with no side effects. This is not a high compression engine, so I don't think you need 92 rating unless you just want a hi grade fuel. I do run some carb cleaner through every 3,000 miles or so.

The whole concept behind the low compression M180 is that you can run it on the lowest grade gasolines. I think the idea was to borrow gasoline as the NATO forces were pushing back the Red Hordes into eastern Europe -- which at the time had notoriously poor quality fuels.

I highly reccomend cleaning the carb often. Especially if your truck sits for any period. The gaskets and seals love to dry up and cause the carb to leak... not that they are the most precise carbs I have ever seen.
