I'm tossing around the idea of converting my 600sel to have the four place seating... Is this even possible? Meaning A) does anybody know about how much it will cost, B) can you find the parts any more, and C) will it need a bunch of more wiring and relays and all that good stuff?

Find a donor car, anything can be done, you have to remember your back seat is adjustable. You will have to split the system snce now both backrests will adjust seperately. As I recall you need the seats, wood, arm rest, etc.
The cost is probably more than the car

unlike the bench type seat that only have seat backs adjust, does the rear 2-seating have seat forward movement?

Yes, they did move a bit forward and backward if I remember correctly. It might not have been manually selectable though. I think the forward/backward movement is tied in with the reclining feature.

Oiy... Donor car... Finding that will be fun LOL. Any way I can find the parts numbers and just buy everything I need from MB (I'm a sucker for new parts)?

Yep each seat is electric and generally this configuration is only found on later years 600s (at least on this side of the ocean)

all the parts to make the conversion are not available from MB anymore due to the use of 3rd party suppliers that haven't made the components in years

Well maybe I'll have to live with turning my 600 into a mere S74 LOL. I will definitely keep my eyes open for a donor car though. I figured it wouldn't be easy to convert to the four place seating. If I come up with anything I'll let you all know!

Overseas is where you will get those parts - Japan and Europe to be exact. Check out their versions of Ebay and Yahoo auctions.

It has been done by phamilton01. He used a donor interior. The 4-place seating was 1998 and later only (at least in the US). As I recall, significant wiring and also some welding of mounting points was required. You should be able to search the thread or threads that mention it if phamilton doesn't pop in. I don't believe he put up a DIY type article, just made it known that he had done it.

The table is an original MB W140 part.

The blue interior car ( not mine) has also the "roadfax" installed between the rear seats. Both original MB factory installed.

Hes right, you really need a donor car to do it. You will need to cut and weld the brakets into the car . Wiring will need to added for controls in the door.Its a fun swap.

The more I look at that blue the more I like it! Would look very elegant and classy if it was a silver exterior.
