I've seen pictures of 1983 380SL's both with and without the third brake light. I've also seen a 1984 380SL without the third brake light. Why do some of the 1983 models have it, and others don't? Were these cars modified later, or was it a dealer option as new? I believe it was in 1985 that it became a US requirement, as my 1984 Volvo does not have one.

Thanks,
Steve

Brake Light

Quite right, but If you choose to add a light to your car, get one from a 1988 or newer SL -- it's smaller and much more attractive than the earlier light from the 86-87's.
