Just got a new 2015 GL 550 fully loaded. Loved everything but the 360 degree camera at night. Without a nearby streetlight, the rear view monitor was worthless. I blamed the puny back up lights. Complained to the dealer service department, who offered to update the lighting software. I was doubtful software could make a difference, but I was wrong. The software update, now makes the night view 90% the brightness of the day view (which was always outstanding). A simple no cost solution. Why a new SUV did not come with the latest lighting software is beyond me, but it sure solved the problem. Happy in Oregon.

My dealer's SA says there is no such update.

Anyone had this done?
Only OP to my understanding, maybe they adjusted settings, but told him SW update.

Also my experience is that the SA sometimes do not even bather to look for updates.

Dealer's Shop Foreman says there is an update available to fix problems with the camera at night.

So much for a 'knowledgeable' SA. Actually, maybe that's an oxymoron!

I had the update done to my 2015 ML350 today. I called my service advisor about it last week and he said he hadn't heard of an update. Crazy. I told him I was in possession of the actual service bulletin, but I didn't share how I had gotten it.

He wanted me to drop it off last evening so I did. I also handed him a copy of the actual service bulletin. Don't know if they wanted to check the performance in the late evening at dusk or what. They had it all day today. Performed the update. Re-calibrated the camera. He said he couldn't tell if it made a difference, but I would know with night performance.

I took it for a drive tonight to test it. The difference is absolutely incredible. Amazing is all I can say.

If others are disappointed in the night performance of their 360 camera, I highly recommend getting the update. If the SA tells you there isn't an update, they don't know what they're talking about.

I'm glad we have forums like this to share information. I figured the poor performance of my camera was just "the way it is" and I had to live with it. I originally found the thread about the update in the GL-Class forum and figured, since the two are so similar, perhaps the update was for both camera systems. I just now found this thread in the M-Class forum and wanted to share my positive experience with others and vouch for the update for the ML.

Yep it helps all MB owners, also check as you should now have the light adjustment scale available.

I had that light adjustment/brightness scale available before. I had initially attempted to use it to brighten the display, but it barely made a difference at night and then, during the day, the picture was way too bright and washed out.

the SA do not keep up with SW updates. they usually don't have time and there are so many they don't understand what they are for. Us as techs do so many SW updates for various issues its hard for even use to keep up with them. SO try not to bash your SA too much. if they don't know than politely ask them to check.

Also the dealers will get the updates before the factory will. Its easier for the dealers to get it than stop production to change all the programming. If I am not mistaken the modules are preprogrammed and the factory just VIN codes them and clears faults.

Does anybody know if the dealership charge for this? I just took mine into the dealership to have this update and they wanted to charge me $170 just to "diagnose" the problem (even though I diagnosed the problem for them), then he said if it does turn out to need a software update, we may charge you for that, too, and he also said they would need to keep my vehicle for 2 days! All of this sounded unreasonable to me, so I told my service rep to forget about it.

Also, does anybody know if this can somehow be done yourself? Or does this have to be done at the dealership?
