I've got a rough idea how to read these things; I'm looking for some more specific information. Here's the first 8 digits of my cars VIN:

WDBAB93A

What I'd like to know is how to decode the last 5 digits. My understanding is that this is where the car's specific features are indicated. So what are the features of an AB93A?

Thanks all!

WDB is the code for Daimler-Benz, you need the first six or eight digits after WDB to say something about the car. It can tell you the model and whether it has an automatic/manual transmission and which factory it came from.

If you have the full VIN, then there is a datacard available, which gives you information about all the installed original options. The datacard is available through the EPC or at the dealer/MB Classis Centre.

Here's what I know and don't know.

MBeige, the car is an '83. That 93 in the VIN is not the date code. According o the incomplete information I've found on the Web, that indicates the "model within the series.

So here's the complete VIN:

WDBAB93A9DN017507 .

I've been doing some more research. Below, I'll indicate what I know and what I don't know. If someone can help me fill in the blanks, I'd be grateful.

W = produced in Germany
DB = Daimler-Benz
A = Series (W123)
B = sometimes body style, but for this car it indicates the fuel (Diesel)
93 = "model within series" (presumably this indicates the Turbo Diesel Wagon)
A = ... don't know. According to the info I've found online, this should correspond to the restraint system, but the only choices are C, D, E, and F. What gives?
9 = a check digit
D = the date code. Starts from 1980, with A, and counts up, so mine's an '83.
N = ... don't know. This should be the plant it was produced in, but there's no choice for N. Help?

The rest is the specific chassis code. Anyone know how to read these? Is there information coded in there for color, interior color, and options, or is this just a look-up?

Thanks all.

Thank you Govert70227.

I use a Mac, and the EPS-online site says that it does not currently support Macs. Also, while it indicates it's free, it requires I submit m credit card number.

Is it possible for someone to look this up for me?

Thanks,
Jim

Anyone know what "Paint Code 5" means? Is that pinstripes or something? Paint Code 1 is the exterior color. "Equipment" (151) is the interior color. But I'm not sure what to make of "51").

Thanks,
Jim
