it rained last night (a lot)..I opened the tailgate today and a glassful or so of water came out at the spot in the center of the photo-you can see it's still dripping a bit. What's a good way to figure out where it's getting in? Obviously not a good thing..

Water leaks are always tough to diagnose, but if water is coming from inside the rear hatch, I think the window seal may be the culprit.

Maybe, but I'd lean more towards either the big holes that the trim goes through or the gate release/ lift trim gasket, (not sure what the lower trim's called).
Either way I'd remove the interior panel and start checking. Also I'd check the bellows at the top where the vacuum lines and wiring comes through.

Don't forget to check the rubber seal where the wiper passes through the glass.
