All,
I finally have some time to tackle surface rust around the sunroof cut out of my SDL.
I am planning to remove the old seal, grind off the rust, treat the areas with POR-15 and repaint them before installing a new seal which I already have.
Even though the rust doesn't seem to go very deep, I am fairly sure I'll have to rebuild some of the edges to flatten the corroded areas before I can repaint them.
Does anybody have suggestions on what compound to use? I can foresee this to be total PITA since the corrosion is right on the edge where there isn't a lot of surface for the compound to adhere to. Is there any special stuff for this? It has been ages that I had to do some kind of patching so I am not familiar at all with what's available anymore.
Also, when I install the new seal (126 780 00 98 - it's the rubber/felt ring that comes in one piece) do I have to apply anything to the seal (the part that slides in the groove) before pushing it in?
Thanks in advance!
