Hi I have been here since 04 and love the site. I have been able to maintain my deisel myself and kept her out of the scrap yard. Recently I have a puzzling problem that I have not been able to correct. First the car started running rough. I had been runing a little filtered wvo with deisel about 15% wvo. So I figured I had clogged a fuel filter. I changed both. No help. I checked the tank screen no help. I ran deisel purge through from the tank hose (straight not blended with fuel) Ran great! I then refilled (partially) the fuel tank with straight deisel. Back to the same problem. I checked the hoses on top of the injectors to be sure I had no leaks no help. I had changed the oil recently and put in 15w 50 royal purple and a new filter. The car has no power and can't be taken on the road(stranded twice) It seems to get to a point where it will start run rough and then die. Any help? I love this car and want to keep driving her. I am starting to wonder if its the injectors or the injector pump. But this happend pretty suddenly. Thanks for any assist.

Also check your fuel hoses to the tank.

I have been told there is no adjustment left in the valves. But why would this happen so suddenly. I mean like overnight? I did notice that my primer doesnt seem to be working either. Would a bad primer cause this?

As I said all the screens/filters have been checked an/or replaced, that would seem to be the obvious solution though. The deisel purge ran great and I had more power when it was in the fuel line.

If you have a 617 engine, you can adjust the valves. Don't know why you would run out of adjustment.
Yes, a bad primer pump will cause your symptoms.

Continued problems

So I replaced the primer. Still the same problem. So I trailered it to the benz dealer in raleigh (1 hr away). After a couple of days and 200$ they still can't tell me whats wrong, although they have found plenty of other issues they would be glad to fix for around 2000$.
But no solution. I have noticed the car has more power when cold and loses power once it heats up. My next step is to replace the filters drain and flush the tank and replace the fuel lines. If that doesn't do it I guess injector pump?

Still problems

The thing I don't understand is why does it run well untill I get about 2 miles away from my house. Then it runs rough and stumbles and has no power then shuts off. At home I ran it for a good 15 min at different rpms just to be sure it had warmed up this last time. Once again stranded 2 miles away

Dumb de Dumb Dumb DUHHHHHH!!

Ok here goes... this is my solution to the problem I have been having. LOW FUEL Yes please don't hate, I already know I am stupid hense the title above. To elaborate, Months ago after I drained the tank to check the strainer, I put some fuel in it, about 3 gal. After being stranded a couple of miles from home I decided to let the "professionals" handle it. After 1 day and a quote for 2000$ I decided once again to work on the problem. I had trailered the car there and back but drove it off and on the trailer. So it sat in the back yard for weeks. I would occasionally move it and every time it wanted to run rough when I started traveling anywhere. So friday I cleaned the air filter and turbo intake. I thought that was it because it sounded like it was running better. So after replacing the air cleaner I pumped up the system and drove about 3 miles till she stopped. My wife towed me home (don't even get me started on that one). This afternoon I was determined to find out what was wrong lest the teasing continue about putting it up on blocks in the front yard(we are Southerners). I checked the filters again. Surprise, surprise(in my best Gomer Pyle) the prefilter was clogged with crap. Remove and replaced, same with the main. Got her back on the road about 1 mile she started acting up I noticed on level ground no problem but up a hill ... she wanted to sputter and die. I removed the prefilter again and blew it out, apparently what little fuel was in there removed whatever crud was in the tank and deposited it in the prefilter and main filter.. I got home. I put in some fuel treatment and dewatering agent. And added about a gallon of fuel to get me to the gas station. I made it to the gas station and it took 18.5 gal of diesel. So long story short I am DUMB.....Man some of the most frustrating problems are caused by general stupidity
