I have an 87 and an 88 300E. One has 202,000 and the other has 180,000 miles. No engine issues at all.
My 23 year old son just graduated college and wants to buy a 94-95 E420. Of course, he has to have the V8. I am trying to convince him to stick with a 300e, or E320. What are the problems to look for in the 94-95 E320 and 420? Is the V8 much more maintenance?

Boy oh Boy!![:I]I really want to jump into to this post as a E420 owner![;)] I have bought and sold a couple of 300E's but never owned one long enough to really tell you the difference in maintance? The one thing I will say for certian is there is more room under the hood with the six! It is mighty tight under there with the V8! I do my own service on the car and it really is not to bad, in fact never changed a easier oil filter! The six banger is a great engine I was surprise how well and smooth for a 6cyl it really ran.[:)] But when it come to plantin yer butt into the seat and feel the silky smoothness of the V8 well what can I say ![;)] I see your boy is 23 these cars are great but IMO if you start to hammer them they will come back to take a nice bite out of your wallet! I drive mine most of the time with kid gloves and so far it has been good to me! Couple more days and I will have had the car for 1 great year![;)][;)]
