So I’ve been trying to replace the worn chrome trim on the grille, and finding the horizontal pieces has proven to be impossible.

I have grille insert 124 888 02 23 which is what the parts catalogs call for. I currently have trim in place on the grille, and it is different from the 124 888 03 85 that all catalogs say is supposed to fit.

The trim I currently have has the front polished face, with what can be described as an upside-down “T” shape that slides into the grille retainers. The part that is called for does not have the “T” and is supposed to have plastic clips(124 988 29 78) to retain it to the grille.

Can anyone tell me the part number for the proper trim and/or if there is a way to have the 124 888 03 85 fit properly? I’m out of ideas and cannot find the original trim that is currently on the car.

I don't know how where or when. But my coupe has solid billet aluminum grill accents. I don't know where they came from (they came with the car). The horizontal accents are solid and the vertical one is the regular pressed aluminum (hallow thin extruded kind).
