Does 3000 RPM at 70 MPH seem right ?
My car (I obviously just got it) has plenty of power (relatively speaking, of course), but still, that seems like a lot of revs at 70.
At 80, it's like 3400-3500, and....well, I haven't gone faster than 80 :)

Thanks

All five and six cylinder MBs of this era are geared to run at high rpm at those speeds. It's normal.

I have a 1983 300SD and at 70mph the rpm should be at 3000. I also notice when I am driving at around 75-80mph, the temperature tend to go up. Keeping it at around 70 mph and temperature should be steady.

At 80mph my car seems to run at 3200ish rpm, is that good or bad?
The early Euro 500's had 3.27 rear ends, from what I've read. Meaning, at a true 80 mph, rpm should be about 3.5 - 3.6K. That's where your's should be at, with the stock wheels/tire combo. Otherwise your speedometer optimistic by 12%.

Under acceleration, I've found these electronic speedometers lag behind a bit. So even though your speedometer is optimistic when static, under acceleration it will appear more accurate.
