As some of you may know by now, I just bought my first used MB, a 1986 190e 2.3L and am starting to turn into an MB enthusiast and trying to learn all I can and have found myself looking at every MB on the road now to see what I can learn.

Today an MB was coming up behind me and in the rear-view mirror I thought it was a 190 model as the front grille and lines of the hood and quarter panels seemed to be a 190, but as it got closer and passed (Ikept slowing up just so I could get a good look at it) I saw that it was a 300E and seemed like a very sweet car.

Seemed the perfect size for me, larger than a compact but not too large either, and had very nice, clean lines and an elegant look.

I couldn't tell what year it was, don't know enough about them yet, but read somewhere on this forum that the "real" MB's of quality were the ones before mid-1990 and that they have the number first and then the letter, like 300E, and newer MB's have the letter then number, like S-500 or something.

So, was the 300E a good car, should I consider getting one or are their better, more reliable models?

the 300e is my favorite.. well aside from th 500e....it has great mileage for the power that it packs. everybody says that the engine is bulletproof. as long as the car has been well maintained, it won't need anything else. i love my 300e

my second benz was a W124 300E 2.6 so it was slow but it is a tank that is nearly indestructable. it has 210000 miles on it and still going strong. even better is a 400E or a 500E
