hi,

dropping in a 3 litre must be doable.
I was just wondering what kind of turbo's did you have in mind? Wich brand?
You said you wanted to change the pistons and other parts of the engine, because you think they can't hold the extra pressure of the turbo's. Well, as I mentioned in a few other posts on this site, our 300E 12valve has a Mosselman twin turbo kit (from +-20.000kms --> 260.000 kms!) and there is absolutely nothing done to the engine, not even a different camshaft or valves or polishing or whatever. The turbo's blow only 0.42 bar, and they are very reliable. they give the engine 292hp and 405nm.(standard 188hp and 260nm). We have never had any problems with our 300E Mosselman, and we are sure that it will stay that way.
Question: How many kms (or miles) has you car / and the engine you want to put in it?
The younger the engine and driven parts of the car, the safer and the more reliable it will be.

Since Mosselman Turbo Systems are the only turbo's that I have had experience with, I can only say what I think about these. Other Companies or systems can be as good as this one, but I highly recommend Mosselman. Our 300E is not my only experience with it: 190 2.3 16v Turbo, 230E turbo, 300GE supercharged, 500sec supercharged... And all of these cars had absolutaly NOTHING done to the engine besides turbo's or superchargers.

well,
I hope I helped you a bit,
hope to hear from you soon!

best regards,

matteus.

I'm sure you can find a used kit for about 2000 or so.
Garett is a good alternative also, their turbo's are from good quality as well.
If you are building an engine yourself it should be okay, otherwise 215.000 miles is a bit to much to fit turbo's afterwards.

good luck with you search!
Ow yes, have you ever heard of 'Lotec'? They used to build very good and High performance turbo's also.
I don't know if they were importing to the US, but maybe you can find some info on them on the net.

well,
