I┤m about to buy a 280 CE -77 in need of some restoration, and I just wonder if anyone can tell just how great deal of its parts are similar/same as in the standard W123 4 door versions. For example, the engine, gearbox, dashboard, body parts etc. I would also appreciate comments on this model from owners, pros and cons etc. In fact, if you have any useful information about this wonderful car, I┤d be happy to recieve an email from you!<p> Thank you!

The mechanicals should MOSTLY swap. Interior parts differ alot, as the length of the car is shorter on the coupe, the height is shorter. Folding seats on the coupe. Door panels, rear side trim and even visors are different. Glass is all different, as are the (outside) mirrors. Driveshaft, and exhaust system are obviously shorter on the coupe.
All that being said, I've parted out several sedans, and kept lots of useful spares. There's still a big market for the sedan parts you can't use.
I don't think the 280 motor has a stellar reputation for power or economy, but I've never had one.
You did find a rather unusual car.
COUPES RULE!!!

Another proud owner of a 280 CE

I also have a 280 CE 1979 to be exact and am restoring it. I live in Louisville, KY and it is the only on e I have seen around. It has the Euro specs and with total production in 1979 of 5091 it is a pretty rare car. Good luck with your restoration efforts.
