I reviewed this forum's posts on higher mileage GLK 250 at 100,000 mile range in NA and did not see any timing chain issues yet. In European models this is an issue and owners have been replacing them at higher mileage. Perhaps this is because the OM651 engine has been running in Europe for more years than in NA.
There was a recall for tensioner bolt seal, no big concern here, I do not see many other issues on this forum or the W212 forum for the chain.
Anyone had chain problems?

Hello there,I have this 212 Mercedes with OM651 engine,,it's got no power, can't exceed 2000rpm and speed cant exceed 20km/hr. Checked timing but seems ok,,only that the chain was a bit slack at first, but once you turn it,the marks align correctly. Removed timing cover and checked all spockets seem fine. What could it be

What led you to believe it is a timing chain or timing problem? Did you decode the error messages and if so, what were they? If it was a timing related issue, wouldn't it be present at any RPM?

This sounds more like a fuel flow or air flow issue which may or may not be related to a controller issue. We need a lot more information about your situation / vehicle before meaningful suggestions can be offered.

Yeah, this. These engines monitor just about everything. What codes are set? If it were pre- emissions I'd say change the fuel filter, check the air filter and look for obstructed exhaust.

Brian, keep in mind that the original post that you appended to which you appended your query was originally put up in August 2018. That's over 4 years ago and no other 250 owner in North America had reported timing chain problems. So I really think you headed down the wrong path, unless you have some data to show otherwise.

Welcome. Your vehicle information in your profile is useful for members and staff alike - Complete your Profile

Is it a a W212 you have? If so I can move your query along to there, it may be better in the section for your car.
