ok, I've searched through the forum, searched through google and can't seem to find a definitive answer. Do you any of you 240 owners know what the stock curb weight of a 240D is? any year.. just want to get close.. ever taken it to a truck scale?? lol

I am seriously thinking of doing a w123 for my next EV project. I will use lithium batteries this time so, adding weight isn't really an issue, but want to know how much I'm starting with.

oh, know how much the 240D engine weighs as well??

thanks in advance!

wow.. really? I expected them to MUCH heavier based on the door sill data plate on my CE.. but then maybe that inline six is a very heavy engine.

Hmmm... I wondwer how much weight I can lose by tossing the engine, radiator, exhaust, fuel tank/lines, etc.... The mind wonders!

Just take the carpets out and scrap out the 2000lbs of insulation that mercedes applied to the car, everytime I lose a chunk my car seems to go faster :p

Per the 1982 brochure technical specification card: 3,130.

1983, same source: 3,265

The 3,030lbs posted above appears to be the curb weight for a 200D.

Take note the online manual is for European versions which have thinner bumpers, probably has no side impact reinforcement beams on the doors and have manual options which make them lighter.

i am highly interested! I'm currently taking a course on energy management and renewable energies. (one instructor drives a 300TD, on veg oil of course) and i've thought about an EV conversion on a 240D before. Difference being i have NO experience in EV's, don't know where to get a motor/batteries/controller ect, and im broke, however i would love to follow you on the way through it.

plus, i don't have the heart to take a perfectly functioning 240D apart. I'd have to find one with a bad engine.... and that's a bit like trying to find Sasquatch.

I'll let you know if I decide the w123 is the route to go.. I want it to be interesting! Even if I find one with a great motor, I'm sure someone would be very interested in giving that motor another life in a different body. We'll see.. this is hypothetical at this point. I've not decided what type of car I want to do.

of course, if I decide to convert a w123, then I'll have a wonderful low-mileage 280CE for sale!

My 1983 200D is 4,232 lbs??

...but it's a smaller 2.0L 4-cylinder engine!

EDIT: Actually I think this is not dry weight. Based on the maximum permissible weight of the 200D above which is 25kg different, I'm guessing the dry weight on mine to be around 2976lbs.

Depends on spec.

1982 240D with aluminium 4spd man transmission 716 210, man windows, man seats, na aircon, no sunroof, Euro spec was weighed at 1375 kg, or 3025 lb.

GCM could be 1920 or so.

Mine is 1983 euro-import 200D (bit smaller than a 240D, only 59hp) with 4 speed manual transmission, manual windows, manual sunroof, air conditioning, manual climate controls.
