Im deciding to swap out my not so good engine thats in my 81 240D with a good one from a 1976 240D. Its the same engine minus some differences(bore, glow plug size, vacuum shutoff, etc) How would i go upon hooking up the old glow plugs to the 81 model wires and all that good stuff to make a 76 engine work in an 81 body? thanks.

I dont mind that the 76 engine doesnt have the same horsepower as the 81. I probably wont be able to notice any difference anyway.

The HP difference is 3hp! The engine is different becuase the air filter is oil bath and the oil filter is not next to the brake booster. It should fit but some of the plumbing might be awkward. There may also be some creativity required with the throttle if you have a rotary type compared to the firewall "bar".

How good is the engine? I know someone who needs that exact type of engine in Oregon if it doesn't work out for you.
